Great British Racing (GBR) is the central promotional and marketing body for British Horseracing. Its aims are to broaden racing’s popularity and, in doing so, help increase engagement with and participation in the sport. 80% of GBR’s year-round output relates to earned coverage, with a particular focus on content creation. Its work is supplemented with advertising and promotion to support specific campaigns.
A Senior PR Consultant is sought to help deliver on certain projects that will form GBR’s PR and Marketing strategy for 2024.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Senior PR Consultant will be responsible for providing strategic support to a small, integrated PR and marketing team in delivering the company’s stated aims and objectives of increasing racing’s popularity by engaging with new customers.
The Senior PR Consultant will be able to develop and execute PR and Marketing strategies, interpret consumer insight to influence activity and exploit opportunities as they arise.
They will also be expected to support the team that creates and develops forward thinking ideas that help make horseracing more popular.
They will be comfortable managing a diverse group of stakeholders and contributing to a broader industry communications strategy. The Senior PR Consultant will be expected to maintain and develop the existing excellent relationships with broadcasters, media partners and – very importantly - journalists.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
· A willingness to serve in both an execution and strategic capacity
· Evidence of creative flair
· A proven track record in securing earned media coverage
· Extensive working knowledge of the digital landscape and awareness of trends
· Excellent existing media relationships – particularly in the consumer sector
· Experience in managing multi-stakeholder relationships
· Excellent written, verbal and inter-personal skills
· A passion for sport and entertainment
Knowledge of horseracing is helpful though not essential, but experience in the sporting sector is preferable. As the needs of the business change this role will change accordingly, therefore this document should be viewed as guidelines which are subject to change.
