We are looking for an experienced full-time Foreperson to join our Osborne Park operation, located in Agnes Banks. Approximately one hour from Sydney, 20 minutes from Penrith and 10 minutes from Richmond.
Osborne Park is a state-of-the-art private training facility that is spread over a 126-acre property. We can accommodate 84 horses in training, split over 4 barns as well as 32-day yards, 27 large spelling paddocks, two horse walkers, a water walker, onsite vet room, rehabilitation barn with 8 boxes and 5 small yards. In addition, we have a private training track, which allows our staff to have a morning shift start time of 5.30am.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the delivery of daily care, health and nutrition regimes for the barn’s horses in training in accordance with the horse training plan and workplace procedures and requirements. The role includes race day preparations and post-race activities, in addition to race day attendance. Foremen provide contemporary management of barn staff, and collaboration with all the barns needed for the successful achievement of organisational goals and business objectives.
Tasks include:
- Supervise daily barn operations including groundwork, walker, water walker as well as stable cleaning and maintenance or gear, equipment, and facilities.
- Supervise daily section’s care of horses, including routine health checks, recognising ailments and signs of injury.
- Implement and monitor feed and nutritional program, preparing and distributing feed.
- Supervise race day preparation and post-race activities.
- Supervision of barn staff including induction, performance management, discipline, leave and employee relation issues.
- Implement compliance in applying safe systems of work and practices, including identifying and reporting risks and incidents.
Desirable:
- Experience in supervising an operational team, with the confidence and willingness to foster and lead a positive, respectful, inclusive and safe workplace culture.
- Well-developed husbandry and horsemanship skills with a sound understanding of training and practices
- Sound knowledge of horse health care and welfare requirements, including prevention and treatment of injury and disease
- Strong presentation & communication skills, including the ability to deal with the media as required
- IT confidence with practical experience in electronic record management, reporting systems and communication applications
- Current Drivers Licence with a preparedness to work out of hours and weekends
