The Point to Point Authority (PPA) is the governing body of British Point to Pointing under the delegated powers from the British Horseracing Authority (BHA). There are approximately 1600 thoroughbred racehorses involved in point to points, with over 130 fixtures taking place between November and June on almost 80 courses around the country. Pointing is the grass roots of British jump racing with 70% of under rules jockeys, 30% of licensed trainers and 10% of under rules horse starting out in point to points. We’re an amateur sport with an increasingly professional element and are the foundation of British jump racing.

Pointing enjoyed record crowds at a number of fixtures in the 2023-24 season, and offers a unique day out for race-goers. It’s less formal environment plays well to a wider demographic than under-rules racing; they can bring their dog; walk the course; stand by a fence as the horses jump; get closer to the action; bring a picnic to have by the car boot or buy food and a range of other goods at outlets and stands on the day; enjoy the horse racing or simply enjoy being with family and friends in the countryside. It’s exceptional value for families as under 16’s go free, and due to its wider experience on the day is able to attract newer and wider demographics.
Pointing is seeing increasing levels of support and engagement from the wider sport as we build and strengthen relationships, particularly within the Jockey Club, BHA and HBLB (Levy board)
The PPA have a focus group currently designing a new marketing strategy which will work on a national and local level to grow the sport, playing to those already in pointing and horse racing, and a new and wider audience outside of both. As part of the new strategy there will be branding, logos, revamped website, marketing plan, marketing collateral, consistent messaging and a recognizable voice. As the first step in implementing the strategy we are looking to recruit a Digital and Content marketer to work closely with the CEO, someone with energy, drive and a passion for pointing or horse racing.

Our person has energy, drive, a positive can-do attitude and is great to be around. They already love pointing or horse racing and know how to tell a great story, can easily build relationships across the sport, creating engaging content tailored to specific channels, platforms and audiences
