Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Location: Home Based – with regular travel to racecourses
Salary: £41,800
Grade: AT4
The British Horseracing Authority is the single governing and regulatory body for British Horseracing which ensures the continuing integrity and successful development of the sport. It is the BHA's role to act for and on behalf of the whole sport, ensuring that the highest standards apply on and away from the racecourse.
This is a rare opportunity to join our team of Handicappers, whose expertise is fundamental to achieving competitive racing.
Reporting to a Handicapping Team Leader you’ll be responsible for producing handicap ratings within prescribed timescales and liaising regularly with trainers and owners to explain handicapping decisions and BHA handicapping policy. As such, an established understanding of handicapping and a consistent, thorough and meticulous approach to the analysis of the performance of horses is required.
We are looking for an impressive, diplomatic, capable communicator which will be essential for your engagement with Officials, Trainers, Owners and the media.
Whilst the position is home based, Handicappers are also required to routinely work from British Racecourses to provide Handicapping expertise and evidence to fellow Raceday officials, attending at least 30 meetings each year.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with us, to help advance procedures and methodologies of handicapping, bringing a positive attitude, meticulous attention to detail, as well as the ability and initiative to drive their own work productively.
Given racings fixture list and the exacting nature of the role, a willingness to work with a high degree of flexibility that involves regular weekend, bank holiday and unsociable working hours is also needed.
Your experience is likely to have come from working in a similar analytical environment, coupled with a sound understanding of horseracing. The BHA is an inclusive employer who values diversity and we actively encourage and welcome applications from candidates of diverse cultures, perspectives and experiences.
Culturally, we take pride in the way we work and what we achieve. We are committed to advancing the work of equality, diversity and inclusion and we want to attract the best people from the widest talent pool, as well as those who reflect the diverse nature of our society.
