We have a fantastic opportunity for a Forestry and Conservation Manager to join our Jockey Club Estates Team at Newmarket. This role will manage woodland areas throughout The Jockey Club estate in Newmarket, ensuring the estate tree management, conservation and biodiversity plans are managed to the required standards.

The Forestry and Conservation Manager will
• Ensure tree surveys are kept up to date in line with appropriate legislation across the Newmarket estate.
• Ensure all tree surveys are carried out annually, in high-risk zones. Ensure all associated work is carried out in like with survey recommendations (across the 3 TJC sites in Newmarket)
• Promote the expansion of new woodland coverage and, where possible, the restoration of our historic woodland
• Plan and implement an annual work program and ensure the effective use of resources to meet the objectives of the woodland and conservation areas.
• Supervise forest workers and contractors in the field, which may involve negotiating with subcontracting companies.
• Keep up to date with changes in legislation and industry developments.
• Plan and implement the hedge cutting program for the wider Newmarket Jockey Club Estate
• Plan and control budgets and prepare costing and financial forecasts.
• Generate income from external contracts.
• To assist with the presentation and maintenance of the Training Grounds to the highest standards
• Identify and advise on the various grants that are available to the Jockey Club and managing these areas to ensure we qualify for payments.
• Work Closely with the projects team as equipment sharing is required, also provide cover for weekend and holidays for other managers in the business.
About you
• Ability to work on own initiative, but also as part of a team with a can-do attitude.
• Hold a Full driving licence and be competent in Tractor driving.
• Great understanding of Health & Safety legislation
• Relevant experience working in woodland and conservation.
• Chainsaw Licences (felling up to 380mm)
• Qualification in conservation
• IOSH
• Basic Tree survey and inspection
